AUSTIN, Texas — The joint agreement struck between the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Austin Police Department in March was on shaky ground from the start, temporarily halted in May, then resumed in July. After months of trying to iron out the kinks of their union, the partnership to aid APD with staffing shortages has ceased as of Wednesday. But DPS troopers are not retreating as they continue to patrol the streets of Austin. The City of Austin alluded to “recent events” having led to its decision to suspend the APD and DPS partnership.
