Austin South Terminal in Austin, Texas

This seems like the dumbest idea ever. This is physically RIGHT across from the main terminal BUT to get from one to the other, it's a 15+ MINUTE SHUTTLE ride the LONG way around the entire airport property. This newer metal building is nestled in what appears to be a bunch of decrepit, abandoned warehouses. I cannot say what incredibly poor decisions and judgement thought this would be a good idea. At O'Hare you can take a tram ACROSS the tarmac from one terminal to another. If they did that, they would save probably 13 minutes of time. This is so incredibly inconvenient. I'm cool with Austin bein' weird, but this is just ridiculous. There is no real PreCheck here so you'll have to wait in line with everyone else but you'll go through the metal detector with your shoes on. There's a patio with a food truck but it's encircled by a high wire mesh fence giving the feel that you're in a WWII P.O.W. camp. The waiting area is very nice and new with a variety of seating options as well as lots of places to plug in and charge your devices. There was a gentleman who worked for the airport and he was fantastic: Very friendly, greeted passengers in the area, and interacted with them. I didn't catch his name but he was the bright star of the experience. Maybe there's a bigger plan to do something more and intelligently connect it to the main terminal. As it stands now, I would AVOID ANY airline that uses that terminal unless I had someone waiting to pick me up and didn't have to transfer to the main terminal.
