Downtown Austin: View Texas capitol city's skyline changes annually From 2005 to 2022, Austin's skyline really looks different for Remember a few years ago when Austin was the No. 1 place to live according to every other report? Well, those days seem gone. This year's U.S. News and World Report's Best Places to Live in 2023-2024 ranks Austin at number 40, however, the city's still the number one place to live in Texas. In the last few years, the city's been slipping from the top of this list.
